David Mamet’s famous play American Buffalo opened this week in NYC, with it’s Broadway opening scheduled for mid-November. The play takes place in Chicago, about three small time crooks who look at life philosophically. They are trying to steal a coin from a local collector. The play notes describe the characters in the following way: “Volcanic and motor mouthed Teach (Leguizamo) schemes and spars with fatherly, street-smart junk shop owner Donny (Cedric the Entertainer) enlisting Bobby (Osment), a slow-witted and desperate young delinquent, to carry out their misbegotten robbery.”" The play was Mamet’s big piece on Broadway, and made his reputation known there.

Jason Mraz is currently on tour promoting his new album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. He was popular beginning in 2002, when he signed his first recording contract and made several albums in the first couple years. After that, he started touring smaller venues again, in an effort to really find himself in his music again. Now, he’s back with this new album, clearly his pride and joy. The single “I’m Yours” from this album has become his most popular song, and his first to make the Top Ten in the Billboard Hot 100. The album has sold more than 500,000 copies in the US so far, and is certified Gold by the RIAA

If you are planning on seeing Man Man live in concert anytime soon, get ready for the best peformance you will ever see in your life. As the band takes the stage, moustached tribal faces painted dressed all in white, they will sit quietly and bow to each other before they begin. Then come the bike horns, kitchen pots, tambourines, and piano reminiscent of Tom Waits. If you have ever been to a fundamentalist church gathering then get ready for- the band will be kicking, contorting, and jumping out of their stools to throw themselves into their percussions, as you look on ready to bow down and worship. And worship you will, especially after they bring out the water and baptize you during one of their songs (seriously). Find out more about the arty and innovative Man Man here.

Hearing the Fleet Foxes perform live in concert is the equivalent to standing on the edge of the ocean or the edge of the woods or near the edge of a mountain and feeling eternity ring through the air. Envision the autumn leaves slowly falling to the ground where little helper elves in green boots sweep them up before the sly red fox with black paws comes hungry for supper on this brisk day. Yeah, it’s kind of like that. The Fleet Foxes fall under the category of “new folk” with artists such as Joanna Newsom. They combine the vocals of My Morning Jacket and The Shins with the harmonies of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and they don the instrumentals of heaven. Check them out.
