It is connected with the fact that the Mariners have overcome many expenses during the offseason. Though in vain. LeBron James scored thirty-nine points, grabbed thirteen rebounds, and dished out fourteen assists in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 117-116 loss to the Orlando Magic. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, LeBron James is the 1st player to record that many points, rebounds and assists in a game since Wilt Chamberlain in 1968. Yao Ming had twenty-six points and thirteen rebounds in the Houston Rockets’ 93-90 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Jason Richardson and Gerald Wallace each scored twenty-seven points but the Bobcats fell to the Hawks 117-109.

Last night’s NHL highlights

Ilya Kovalchuk scored in the 1st minute of overtime, 27 seconds after Hossa forced the extra period with a power-play goal as the host Thrashers beat the Panthers, 3-2. Ilya’s NHL-leading fifteenth goal gave Atlanta its 4th win in the past 5 matches. David Perron shot 2 goals in St. Louis‘ 4-goal 2nd period and the Blues rallied from 2 down for a 4-3 victory against the Red Wings to snap a 3-game losing streak.

George J. Mitchell Report Coming Soon

discusstickets.jpgFormer Senator Mitchell will very soon produce his much-anticipated report concerning the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by MLB players. As speculation swirls as to which names might be announced, the report also poses a number of intricate legal issues. By listing names, the League hopes to evade further Congressional scrutiny and thus offer closure on an embarrassing era. However, it can be criticized for ignoring years of circumstantial evidence.

Phoenix for All-Star Game

Ski Austin wasn’t surprised when he answered the phone last summer and heard Jerry Colangelo’s voice. The NBA’s executive vice president for events and attractions group Ski Austin, knew what Colangelo wanted. It had been eleven years since Phoenix last hosted the NBA All-Star Game. Jerry Colangelo felt that was too long, so he told Ski Austin to just go ahead and book Phoenix for the 2009 event. More than a year after that call, Phoenix was officially awarded the 58th All-Star Game.

Jose Guillen is expected to be interviewed by the commissioner’s office about his purchase of $19,000 worth of performance-enhancing drugs over a 3-year period. The player’s orders included a $2,083 shipment, which was sent to the Coliseum in September 2003. His orders were placed between June 2002 and May 2005. MLB banned steroids in 2003. Jose Guillen played for the A’s in 2003 and has spent eleven years in the big leagues.
